Does the registration fee include an Annual SHBE Membership?

Last year, the SHBE board decided to separate the membership fee from the Convention fee (reducing the Convention ticket fee accordingly), specifically because our memberships are managed by our website host for convenience of keeping our membership list accurate and easier to manage. Our ticket system for Convention is completely separate. Therefore, the 2024 Convention required membership to attend and it was a 2-step process, with 2 separate payments. Years previous to 2024, the membership fee was included in 1 overall Convention fee (and was higher as a result). For ease of setting up registration this year we are doing a trial run of not checking and confirming each attendee's membership status upon Convention registration as we did last year. HOWEVER, we really do hope that this doesn't result in membership cancellations (and that non-members will also sign up for a membership), for a number of reasons.

First of all, everyone involved with SHBE is a volunteer! While Convention fees cover the Convention expenses, our SHBE Membership is what covers all the operating costs of SHBE itself as a registered non-profit charity in Saskatchewan! This includes the required insurance, website costs, and other overhead expenses that are kept to a minimum.  All members are invited to our annual AGM and can contact SHBE at any time.

Check out the below infographic and our About page for more information about what SHBE is about. If you have any other questions about SHBE, please be sure to contact our Help Desk

Lastly, our board revisits Convention and board expenses every year. We tried to keep the Convention fee as low as possible, but if too many members cancel, we will have to re-evaluate how we set up our memberships and the Convention fee and/or registration process may need to be adjusted accordingly.

Children's Program

Giant Cow Children's Ministries is bringing a faith-based children's program!

Check out their promo video, here.

"Giant Cow Children’s Ministries offers a high-octane, supercharged, Jesus-filled, day camp-styled kids’ event at each of GHC’s locations (see age info below). Giant Cow brings on-site an amazing team of Children’s Ministers from across North America, many of whom direct large-scale kids’ ministries inside some of America’s most impactful churches. This team facilitates every aspect of these high-energy events including ticket sales, child safety, and, of course, dynamic content that draws each child closer to Jesus. Whether it is exciting music, inspiring messages, entertaining characters, Scripture memory, positive mentoring, team competitions, on-stage games, or dramatic productions, Team Giant Cow creates an environment that is impactful, safe, and FUN!"

A FEW IMPORTANT DETAILS:
  • The Giant Cow Kids program is available for kids ages 5-12.  The program will be hosted on site at the Convention, and the cost includes both days of the Convention.
  • The cost for this program is $65 if you register before January 3, $70 up to the day before Convention, and $80 at Convention.
  • Secure tickets for your kids (or learn more about the program) by clicking the Children's Program Registration button at the top of this page.  You will be taken to the Giant Cow registration page.  Additionally, a registration link for the Children's Program will also be included in the confirmation email after you purchase your other tickets.
  • If you have a young person age 15 or older who would like to join the Cow for a weekend of ministering to kids as a VOLUNTEER, his or her participation provides your family with ONE FREE TICKET for one of your younger children (applies to children within the same family). Have more than one young person interested? There is ONE FREE KIDS TICKET available for each volunteer who serves. This is a limited offer, so contact Cow today to learn more and to find out how your young person can qualify. And you can get a HEAD START by filling out the online volunteer application.  Giant Cow does accept junior volunteers at age 13. However, the free ticket offer is available only for volunteers who are 15 or older who serve with Giant Cow for the entire event.

Used Books

This year, SHBE is doing a trial run of a new feature, and will not be offering a Used Books Room at the Convention.  However, for those who would like to sell used books, please contact Francie Munchinsky ([email protected]) for more information.  Together with her daughter, she will be setting up a booth in the Vendor Hall and is willing to sell your materials for you on consignment.

Take note that the SHBE Board is discussing additional possibilities for facilitating the sale of used books and curriculum in various areas of the province at other times during the school year!

‘Can I REALLY do this?’ Workshop

This popular homeschooling workshop is the ideal place to start. This workshop will answer questions from anyone considering homeschooling, and from anyone ready to start their homeschool journey. Questions like, “Is homeschooling legal?”, “Am I qualified?”, “Where do I start?”, and “How do I start?”

Join us Friday, February 28, 2025 for this workshop. This workshop is free, but to attend any other parts of the convention, you will need to register.

Homeschool Completion Ceremony

We are pleased to once again host the Homeschool Completion Recognition Ceremony. The ceremony will take place on Friday at 7:30 p.m. after the final plenary session, in honour of students completing formal homeschool studies in the spring of 2025. Both parents and grads will be introduced.  Anyone interested in participating in this event can indicate so on their registration form, and they will be contacted with additional information.
